Civil War Story and Crafts at the Little Library

Historic Vienna, Inc. invites grade school children and their parents to a reading of “Lucy’s Cave” at the Little Library on the grounds of the Freeman Store, 131 Church Street, NE, Vienna, on Sunday, December 4 at 1:30 pm.

The story takes place in Vicksburg, the site of an important Civil War battle, in 1863. Materials will be available for all of the children to make a Civil War craft!

Author Talk with Robert F. Dorr: “Mission to Berlin”

Historic Vienna, Inc. is sponsoring a lecture by author, USAF veteran and retired senior diplomat Robert F. Dorr on Wednesday, December 7 at 7:30 pm in the Council Chamber of Vienna’s Town Hall.

On the anniversary of the United States’ entry into WWII, Bob will discuss his newest book “Mission To Berlin,” a history of the B-17 Flying Fortress crews who participated in the largest mission ever flown against a single target.  There will be a question period following the lecture.  Bob writes books, magazine articles and newspaper columns about Air Force history and operations.  He will have copies of this book for sale at the event.

Pennywise Thrift Store’s 50th Anniversary!

Pennywise Thrift Store, a community service project sponsored by Church of the Holy Comforter in Vienna, will celebrate its 50th anniversary on November 3.

The brainchild of now deceased church member, Lillian Croy, Pennywise accepts donations and consignment items and provides low cost clothing and household items for sale while offering a green alternative for recycling gently used items for use by others.  Pennywise income supports church and charitable programs for those in need and donates items not sold to American Rescue.

On Thursday, November 3, in celebration of this golden anniversary, all items at Pennywise will be 50% off.   Come join with the workers at Pennywise (corner of Mill and Church Street) and share this special day! You are sure to find a bargain!

Historic Vienna’s Freeman Store offers a beautiful hand-painted Christmas ornament by Rachel Peden of the Pennywise building (Bouton’s Hall 1894) for sale.
