Time: 7:00 PM
Date: Tuesday, October 16
Location: Town Council Chamber of Vienna’s Town Hall (127 Center Street S)
Our speaker for the evening will be local resident Joe Alonso, Head Stone Mason at the Washington National Cathedral since 1990. We can all say where we were when the unusual-to-our-area earthquake struck in August, 2011, but most of us dealt only with a bit of broken crockery or art a bit askew. Mr. Alonso and his fellow Stone Masons are still dealing with the aftermath of the quake and will be doing so for many years to come.
He followed his father into the stone mason profession, has been at the Cathedral since 1985 and was present in 1990 when the final stone was set on the towers (83 years to the day after the first stone was laid). He will show slides of the history of the Cathedral, its construction, the earthquake damage and bird’s eye photographs of the stabilization and restoration work which is on-going.
There will be a brief business meeting, during which elections will be held for three Board of Directors positions. There will also be a presidential debate at 9:00 PM–please note our earlier-than-usual start time!
The HVI Membership Meeting is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served! Interested in becoming a member? Learn more!
