2016 Book Sale volunteers: Thank you for your help!

Thank you to all of the volunteers who sorted, set up, sold, consolidated and just plain helped to make the 2016 Used Book Sale a great success. Every volunteer hour counted and we could not do it without all of you.  Wonderful that American Legion Post was able to host us in a grand fashion this year and provided an excellent facility and food and drinks for sale.  Free coffee was quite helpful for the early morning shifts!

Proceeds from the sale help pay for the maintenance of HVI’s collections, mounting of exhibits, printing of HVInk and other publications and brochures, administrative costs such as stationary and postage, and insurance on the contents of the Freeman Store.

2016 HVI Book Sale News!

Speaking of volunteers…thank you, Book Sale Workers!

We moved, you followed.  Changing the location of our annual Used Book Sale from the Community Center to the American Legion on Center Street N in 2016 was challenging and successful!  Would our loyal customers once again follow and support our major annual fundraiser?   The answers is yes, we had great volunteers and customers all three days.,   Thank you!

And our volunteers stepped in, as always, sorting books, setting up and taking down tables and signage, serving as cashiers, consolidators, helpers of all sorts.

Proceeds from the sale help pay for the maintenance of HVI’s collections, mounting of exhibits, printing of HVInk and other publications and brochures, administrative costs such as stationary and postage, and insurance on the contents of the Freeman Store.

Our Friday night Historic Vienna Inc. Members Only Preview SALE was successful again with many happy customers leaving with loads of books.

The 2017 Used Book Sale location and date has not yet been determined.  More to follow!

Historic Vienna Used Book Sale at the Vienna Community Center

Date: June 8 (9:00 AM-4:00 PM) and June 9 (12:00-5:00 PM)
Location: Town of Vienna Community Center

Historic Vienna, Inc. is still collecting books for our largest fund-raiser, the Annual Used Book Sale. Don’t forget to donate your gently read volumes and mark your calendar for June 8 and 9!

This year the sale will be held at the Town of Vienna Community Center on Saturday, June 8 from 9:00 AM-4:00 PM and Sunday, June 9 from 12:00-5:00 PM.  Your tax-deductible donations may be brought in to the Freeman Store at any time during store hours – Wednesday through Sunday from 12:00-4:00 PM, or left on the front porch at any time.

As usual, the sale will feature a wide variety of excellent quality hardbacks and paperbacks in many categories – fiction, biography, science, history, cookbooks, gardening, the arts and many others plus the always fabulous collection of children’s books. If you have a few hours to help with sorting, please call us at (703) 938-5187 for a schedule!

Please take advantage of this opportunity to help our organization by giving us your wonderful books to sell at reasonable prices back to our community.  If you have any collectable or fine quality books, those help us a great deal and are popular sale items in our Treasures Section. When dropping off books if it is necessary for you to do so when rain is in the forecast, please insure that plastic is used to protect your donations as the porch is not always a dry place. Thank you for your donations and we hope to see you at the sale.  Please contact Historic Vienna if you would like to help us out.

We ask that you please refrain from leaving encyclopedias, textbooks or magazines of any kind (even if you remember the class fondly or think that the magazines are special interest) and “Reader’s Digest” type condensed books. These simply don’t sell and our volunteers must move them, sort them, move them again and, ultimately throw them away. Over the years, we have tried and tried to find homes for these types of publications but we have discovered that they just aren’t right for our book sale. You’ll help us more by choosing to donate them elsewhere!
