The Freeman Store and Museum, originally known as Lydecker’s Store, was built in 1859 by New Jersey merchant Abram Lydecker and his wife Susan. It was located strategically at the intersection of the busy Georgetown Road (today’s Church Street) and the Alexandria, Loudoun and Hampshire Railroad tracks. Lydecker’s quickly became an important gathering place and was the polling place for the surrounding area.
This exhibit describes some of the history of the Freeman Store, events that happened at the store and the transportation services that served Vienna and stopped near the store.
